10 Symptoms & Signs of Bronchitis

10. Production of Sputum

Aside from being a fun word to say, sputum is also a great indicator that bronchitis is present. Expectorating a clear white, yellowish-grey or grey-green sputum is common with bronchitis. Sputum is one of the body’s best defenses against invading microbes. By creating mucus the body is gathering, bundling and removing the unwanted bacteria or virus.
In rare cases, the sputum might have traces of blood in it, but unless it persists, or is only trace amounts, this shouldn’t be a reason for concern. However, if you do find it in larger quantities and more frequently, than it is advised you visit a doctor immediately, as serious complications can arise.
