15 Symptoms of Colon Cancer

5. Abdominal Discomfort

Abdominal pain isn’t particularly abnormal — for many people, it can result from eating a particular type of food (for example, even very healthy people can have abdominal discomfort after eating foods like beans, broccoli, or brussels sprouts). But it shouldn’t happen all the time, and if it does, it could be a sign of bigger problems below the surface.

That’s because abdominal pain or discomfort can be the result of a blockage in the colon. If this blockage is the result of a cancerous tumor, then the patient could be in serious danger. Should abdominal cramps become especially painful, it could be a sign that the tumor has spread or even perforated the wall of the bowel. In the latter case, it’s important to seek out medical help right away.
